Tax Information
When are taxes sent out to residents?
When are taxes due?
Summer taxes are due by September 14th of 2006, without interest. Winter taxes are due by February 14th of 2007, without interest.
On September 15th 2006, add 1% interest to the unpaid portion of your summer bill. An additional 1% per month will be added on the first of each month to the unpaid balance. A 3% penalty will be added after the February winter tax due date. Beginning March 1st, all taxes on REAL property will be paid to Grand Traverse County Treasurer, located at 400 Boardman Ave. The County charges a 4% administration fee & 1% interest per month is applied to delinquent taxes when paid at County.
What are my taxes being applied to in my summer and winter bill?
Your summer bill includes two college taxes, three school taxes, a state education tax and a county tax. Your winter bill includes two college taxes, two library taxes, a county tax, GTC medical facility tax, Bata tax, Commission on Aging tax and a Township tax.
Why did my taxes go up?
In the 2006 tax year the County is collecting 2/3 of their tax in the summer bill and 1/3 in the winter bill. This is the opposite of how it was collected in 2005. In the 2007 tax year, the County will be collecting all of their taxes in the summer bill. Although the summer tax bills increased, the winter tax bills will decrease.
Where can I pay my taxes?
You can pay your taxes at the Treasurer's office in the Township Hall and you can also mail your payment to the Township Hall. If you would like to pay them after business hours, you may put them in the drop box that is located by the front door of the Township Hall.
Can Tax payment be deferred?
Summer taxes may be deferred if your 2005 total household income was less than $37,500 and you meet one of the following requirements:
- Senior Citizen, 62 years of age or older
- Paraplegic, Quadriplegic
- Eligible Serviceperson, Veteran, Widow or Widower
- Blind Person
- Totally & Permanently Disabled
You may pick up an application for deferment from the Treasurer's office or call us and we can mail one to you. You must return your applications by September 14th, 2006. In 2007, the minimum household income level will be $40,000.00. Note: You must apply for deferment every year.
What if I did not receive a tax bill?
If you did not receive your tax bill, please call the Treasurer's office immediately and we will send it to you. Failure to receive your tax bill does not waive interest.
